Foreign language Courses

Millions of inventions mark the evolution of human civilization but no invention is bigger than ‘Language’. Language is the medium through which culture and Knowledge transcends from one generation to another. Language gives expression to the human soul and spirit. As the world integrates and nations enhance their interaction, it is more important that one acquires knowledge of languages other than one’s own. Learning a foreign language not only proves useful for exploring global business and economic opportunities, but it also opens the mind to distinct culture, histories and way of life. Such learning thus broadens our perspective of the beautiful world around us.

Miranda House offers certificate courses in collaboration with Department of Germanic & Romance Studies and Department of East Asian Studies, University of Delhi. Department of Germanic and Romance Studies offers Certificate courses in French, German and Spanish. Department of East Asian Studies offers Certificate courses in Japanese and Korean.

Eligibility Requirement

The certificate course is open only to female candidates.

For French, German and Spanish language courses: Candidates who have passed the Senior School Certificate Examination (10+2) of the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, or an examination recognised as equivalent thereto with an aggregate of at least 45% marks are eligible to apply. Admission will be made in order of merit based on the degree/certificate in each of the following categories:

I Post-graduate and above
II Graduate
III 10+2

For Japanese and Korean Language courses:
12 Years of Schooling, Admission on merit.

Application form for Admission

The Applicant must Register ONLY ONCE. Filling more than one form will make the applicant liable to be disqualified for Admission. If Applicant wants to apply for more than one language, he/she is advised to apply before uploading the documents, at the same time.

The application must be accompanied by the following documents:

• Class XII marksheet/certificate
• Marksheet or certificate of last examination passed
• Any certificate for verification of Date of Birth.

Procedure for Selection

The admission will be made strictly in order of merit based on the degree/certificate in each of the following categories:

Category:

I Post graduate and above
II Graduate
III 10+2

As there are limited number of seats available, eligibility does not guarantee admission. Miranda House students will get first preference for admission.

Age requirement

There is no age bar for these certificate courses.

Attendance

No candidate shall be eligible to appear at the examination unless she has attended at least 75 % of the total number of lectures delivered during the academic year in the given subject.

Discipline

All the students admitted to the course in the college shall abide by the general rules and regulations of the college.

Timings

4.00 pm to 6.00 pm

Fee for all courses

Rs.17000/- per course. In addition, students will have to pay the examination fee as per the University rules.

Once classes begin no fee is refundable.
