Aapoorti, the annual economics journal of Miranda House, is an initiative by undergraduate students of economics to bring together ideas and opinions on the many facets of economic life. The word Aapoorti, meaning ‘meeting wants’ in Hindi, captures the very essence of economics: the effort to balance supply with demand and to understand how limited resources can best fulfil human needs. This meaning beautifully aligns with the spirit of our journal, which seeks to bridge diverse perspectives and provide a space where different schools of thought converge to address real-world issues.
Established in 2010, Aapoorti has evolved into a platform integrating dialogue and reflection on issues shaping economies and societies. Each edition of the journal is centred around a distinct theme, offering readers critical perspectives on contemporary economic debates.
The upcoming sixteenth edition adopts the theme “Labour on the Move,” examining the multiple dimensions of labour in a rapidly transforming world. The idea of movement is both literal and figurative: it reflects the physical migration of workers across geographies, as well as the transitions of labour across sectors, technologies, and platforms in response to structural and technological change. In this context, Aapoorti continues to serve as a space where theoretical inquiry meets empirical reality, contributing to a deeper understanding of the evolving economic landscape.
