The B.A. Programme (Multidisciplinary) Department at Miranda House reflects the commitment of the college to flexible and holistic undergraduate education. It provides a variety of combinations range from subjects of social sciences to languages including Physical education and mathematics. Under this diverse course combinations student gets a unique opportunity to learn through interdisciplinary approach. The B.A. Progamme is one of the very earliest Departments which nomenclature till 2004 was B.A. Pass and since 2005 it has become B.A. Programme Course and under NEP-UGFC 2022 it is also known as B.A. Multidisciplinary. The department has evolved into a dynamic academic space to facilitate students with diverse interests and builds a strong intellectual foundation.
It promotes critical thinking, analytical ability, and awareness of contemporary social, cultural, economic, and political issues. Through the combinations of papers like Core, Electives, Skill Enhancement, and Interdisciplinary courses, students gain multiple perspectives on learning and knowledge. With the largest undergraduate enrollment in the college, the Department is supported by a diverse and experienced faculties.
Beyond academics, it organizes seminars, workshops, guest lectures, and its annual fest Exuberance, encourages overall development of the students. Through these inclusive teaching-learning process, graduates are well-prepared for careers in higher education, public service, media, corporate sectors, and other fields. Research under NEP- UGCF 2022
Fourth year students of B.A. Multidisciplinary have an opportunity to do research work. Under the research students are exposed to hand on experience about real issues of society and world around and develop a better solution-oriented approach toward real life.
Curriculum: Under the NEP-UGFC 2022, B.A. Programme follows the four-year course structure with papers like Cored, Generic Electives (GE), Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC), Value Addition Courses VAC, Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses (AECC) and Ability Enhancement Elective Course AEEC.
For their core papers, students study two disciplines, one being their major and the other being the minor, along with generic elective, AECs and VAC. The disciplines offered in this course are: Political Science, Economics, History, Philosophy, Geography, Sociology, Mathematics, Physical Education, English and many other Indian languages.
The teaching–learning approach in the B.A. Programme is interactive, student-friendly, and interdisciplinary, combining theoretical understanding with practical application. While lectures form the foundation, they are complemented by tutorials, group discussions, and activities that promote active student participation and engagement.
Teaching is supported by ICT tools such as presentations, maps, videos, and documentaries to enhance understanding and connect concepts to real-life contexts. Additional study materials and reading resources encourage independent learning, while tutorials provide space for doubt clarification.
Experiential learning is emphasized through projects, research work, and field activities, helping students apply theory to practice. Assessment methods include assignments, tests, quizzes, and presentations, fostering both academic and communication skills. Overall, the approach is balanced and effective, encouraging critical thinking, creativity, and holistic development.

B.A. Programme Graduates have been joining different prestigious higher education institution for their higher education and research. In recent years, several students have joined for their master courses in India and Abroad. Some have joined IIMs and other prestigious institutions for their higher educations. Many graduates have transitioned into interdisciplinary/applied fields taking the benefits of their B.A. Programme course structure. Many Students have chosen to become civil servants.
