Miranda House Advances Energy Harvester Prototypes

Image
Miranda House, Physics department University of Delhi, have significant progress in the development of energy harvesting devices, showcasing prototypes that convert ambient sources into usable electrical power. These innovations highlight the institution’s growing role in applied physics and sustainable technology research.

Among the products developed, piezoelectric harvesters demonstrated the ability to generate electricity from mechanical vibrations. Thin-film structures were engineered to maximize sensitivity, making them suitable for powering small sensors, wearable devices, and portable electronics. Thermoelectric harvesters were also refined to utilize temperature gradients, offering solutions for industrial environments where waste heat can be recycled into electricity.

Solar-driven thin-film devices were fabricated using advanced nanomaterials to enhance light absorption and conversion efficiency. Compact and lightweight, these prototypes are envisioned for integration into communication systems and low-power consumer electronics. Hybrid models combining piezoelectric and photovoltaic mechanisms were also introduced, enabling simultaneous capture of mechanical and solar energy.

Faculty emphasized that these products are not limited to laboratory demonstrations but represent practical steps toward scalable applications. The outcomes reflect interdisciplinary collaboration across physics, materials science, and engineering, with active student participation in design and testing.
