Mr. Tarun Rai, an alumnus of Hindu College, has instituted the Dr. Satya M Rai Scholarship in memory of his beloved mother, Dr. Satya M Rai.
Dr. Satya M Rai
Dr. Satya M Rai was a distinguished political scientist and scholar of Punjab studies. She earned her PhD from Sapru House, Indian Council of World Affairs, in 1960. Her doctoral thesis was later published as the acclaimed book, Partition of the Punjab. She also authored several important works in the field, including Punjab Since Partition.
In 1959, Dr. Rai became the first woman to be appointed as a lecturer at Hindu College, Delhi University. She taught Indian nationalism and contributed significantly to academic discourse through works such as Colonialism and Nationalism in India and Punjabi Heroic Tradition.
Throughout her life, Dr. Satya M Rai remained deeply committed to the cause of women’s and girls’ education, inspiring generations through her scholarship, teaching, and dedication to social progress.
